Decoupage design
How To Guide
Tip: Ensure your project has a base colour close to the Decoupage Design.
Unfolding & Straightening
Unpack your Decoupage Design and gently unfold it. Creases can be eliminated with an iron on a medium heat setting DO NOT USE A STEAM setting. Using baking / parchment / tracing paper between the iron and the wrong side of the decoupage image. Iron until the creases are eliminated.
Methods: There are two effective methods for applying the Decoupage Designs
Water-Based Sealer Method
Apply a generous coat of water-based sealer to your surface. Then, position the Decoupage Design onto the surface, applying slight pressure from the inside out, (at this stage a brayer/roller can be used), until you see the sheet is completely flat with no air bubbles. Lift and replace if needed to ensure there are no air bubbles or wrinkles. Seal over the Decoupage Design with your water-based sealer and let dry. Two coats are advisable Once dry, trim the Decoupage Design using sandpaper in an up/down motion or using a sharp blade to remove excess overhang.
Iron-On Method
Apply a generous coat of water-based sealer to your surface, ensuring full coverage to the edges and then let dry completely. Place the Decoupage Design on the desired area and cover it with a piece of parchment / baking / tracing paper. Use a hot iron, NOT STEAM to iron on top of the paper. This will create the first seal of your project. Then, seal over the Decoupage design. Two coats are advisable. Once dry, trim the Decoupage Design using sandpaper in an up/down motion or using a sharp blade to remove excess overhang.
